The Section of Emission Measurements and Air Protection Equipment provides measuring and research services for clients of public and industrial power industry as well as heating, refining, chemical and paper industries.

Measurements of dust and gas emissions


The periodic measurements of dust and gas pollution emissions include:

  • measurements of the concentrations of SO2, NO, NO2,N2O, NOx (sum of NO and NO2), CO, CO2, H2O, NH3 and O2 in flue gas
  • measurements of dust concentrations
  • measurements of flue gas flows
  • measurements of other emitted pollutants (HF, HCl, SO3, H2S, heavy metals, organic pollutants)
  • sample collection and TOC determination
  • sample collection and determination of the mercury content in solid and gas phase
  • performance measurements of emissions from pulverized-fuel boilers, water heaters, fluidized-bed boilers and gas turbines
  • comparative measurements of emissions in relation to stationary monitoring systems installed at the site
  • measurements verifying the indications of stationary measuring apparatus installed at flue gas desulphurization plants and fluidized-bed boilers
  • measurements of dust and gas emissions during the start-up or standstill of boilers
  • measurements of dust and gas pollution emissions for annual reports of pollutant transfer and release.

The measurements enable the determination of:

  • composition of flue gas emitted from power and industrial boilers
  • level of emissions of flue gas components
  • dust emissions in flue gas
  • efficiency of flue gas desulphurization, denitrification and dust removal
  • emission levels due to boiler start-up or standstill.

Measuring apparatus

We carry out the measurements by means of a mobile laboratory for continuous measurements of air pollution emissions, equipped with flue gas analyzers of the latest generation that make use of reference measuring methods. We have three independent flue gas sampling systems (with complete conditioning line, each), which enables the performance of measurements independently of situation and climate conditions.

Parallel measurements of stationary systems for continuous emission monitoring

The installation of stationary systems for continuous emission monitoring necessitates the performance of parallel measurements to check the correctness of indications. It is a requirement imposed by the valid legal regulations. We perform:

  • complex evaluation of the applied system
  • calibration and checking of dust meters
  • determination of characteristics of dust meters
  • checking and calibration of velocity meters
  • parallel (comparative and control) measurements of the concentrations of flue gas components, i.e.: SO2, NO, NO2, N2O, NOx (sum NO and NO2), CO, CO2, HCl, HF, TOC, H2O and O2
  • calibration of gas pollution analyzers
  • preliminary measurements to enable proper selection of the system and its installation place
  • technical consulting related to the location and method of on site installation of apparatus
  • complex evaluation of the systems according to QAL2 and AST procedures

Our services enable complex evaluation of the system for continuous measurements of dust-gaseous pollutants.
The test and measurement results allow the verification of operation of the system and, as a consequence, the Investor receives a well-functioning measuring system from the supplier.
The measurements and tests constitute one of the elements of the acceptance procedure for monitoring systems, necessary to prepare an application for the system commissioning.
A well functioning emission monitoring system enables the proper control of emission levels and the determination of payments for economic use of the environment.

Measuring apparatus

We perform the measurements in an accredited research laboratory for continuous measurements of air pollution emissions, equipped with flue gas analyzers of the latest generation that make use of reference measuring methods. We have three independent flue gas sampling systems (with complete conditioning line, each), which enables the performance of measurements independently of situation and climate conditions. Our mobile measuring laboratories are among the most modern in Europe.

Measurements of the efficiency of electrostatic precipitators and other dust collectors


Dust emission to the atmosphere has a significant impact on the state of our natural environment. The amounts of emitted dust are dependent on the efficiency of operation of dust collectors.
With regard to the observance of permissible level of dust emissions to the atmosphere, we offer the following services:

  • performance and operational measurements of dust removal efficiency of electrostatic precipitators
  • optimization of operation of electrostatic precipitators
  • performance and operational measurements of bag filters, cyclones, battery of cyclones and multicyclones
  • performance and operational measurements of dust collectors of any other type.

The measurements enable the determination of:

  • efficiency of electrostatic precipitators, cyclones, multicyclones and dust collectors of any other type
  • amount of dust emitted to the atmosphere
  • optimum operation time of shock bars of collecting and discharge electrodes
  • impact of the economical power supply of electrostatic precipitators on their efficiency
  • impact of the acoustic rapping system on dust removal efficiency and dust emission levels/li>
  • flue gas conditioning impact on the efficiency of electrostatic precipitators
  • separation efficiency of dust collectors on the basis of the performed granulometric analysis of dust.

Measuring apparatus

We make the measurements by means of sets of gravimetric dust meters, i.e.: PGZ-2-100 and PGZ-0,02-2, that we construct according to PN-Z-04030-7:1994.

Desulphurization of boiler flue gas - measurements, tests, consulting

Energopomiar has multi-year experience in the scope of flue gas desulphurization (FGD) installations for different types of power boilers, including fluidized-bed boilers.
Our services include, among others:

  • assessment of necessary desulphurization degree and choice of optimum technology for the specific plant
  • opinions on process and technical designs of FGD installations
  • technical consulting:
    • at the stage of preparing the contract for delivery of installations
    • on location and installation of measuring pipes
    • on the selection, location and correctness of indications of gas analyzers at the treated and non-treated flue gas ducts
  • function of the Owner’s Engineer (services provided by the Consulting and Investor Supervision Office)
  • evaluation of operation correctness of FGD installations and particular technological devices

Flue gas denitrification – measurements, tests, consulting

  • Consulting on the selection of a denitrification method for the specific plant
  • Ecological and economic analysis of the construction of flue gas denitrification systems
  • Development of the concept for flue gas denitrification as regards catalytic and non-catalytic methods
  • Consulting on obtaining European funds for the construction of flue gas denitrification installations and also on planning and stating the ecological effects – services provided by the Wastes Utilization Section
  • Preparation of technical specifications for the selection of contractors of flue gas denitrification systems (SIWZ document)

Measurements and modernization of the systems for transport of sorbents and products of combustion and desulphurization processes

Systems for dust or slag removal and sorbent transport constitute an essential part of power plants and CHP plants.

Our services cover:

  • selection of dust or slag removal systems
  • evaluation of potential modernization of old dust removal systems, both wet and dry options
  • assessment of possible replacement of old installations with new ones
  • measurements of installations and equipment for slag or dust removal and sorbent transport, i.e.: tank pumps, slurry pumps, pneumatic chutes, blowdown apparatus, ash and water mixers, rotary valves and screw conveyors

Noise measurements


Our services cover:

  • periodic measurements of noise emitted to the environment

Advantages of services

Our measurements of noise emitted to the environment enable the meeting of requirements imposed by the Environmental Protection Act, according to which every company with the integrated permission is obliged to carry out such measurements every two years.
In case of new installations, the measurements are essential for the evaluation of meeting the contractual requirements.
The measurements allow the determination of possible noxiousness of a specific company and may serve as the basis for undertaking measures aimed at the reduction of its excessive noise emissions.

The calculations of noise emissions in the environment by the existing company constitute also a basis for determining its acoustic impact under different operating conditions, enable the indication of a dominant source of noise and evaluate possible reduction of noise emissions.
Our specialists have a rich knowledge of acoustic parameters of different noise sources and experience in solving atypical problems that occur during the realization of new investment projects. This enables an accurate prediction of noise emission levels of planned investments comprising also acoustic issues.

Presently, many plants are planning new investment projects or implementing new solutions, therefore, it is necessary not only to make proper predictions but also to provide environmentally friendly contractual conditions. Thanks to our experience obtained while working on many guarantee provisions, already at this stage of the investment project we are able to predict and eliminate possible hazards and problems related to noise emission levels.

We make the calculations by means of computer-based programs like SoundPlan and HPZ that meet all the suitable normative requirements and offer a wide range of possibilities of both making and presenting calculations.
