Environmental Monitoring Section performs site and laboratory work in compliance with the valid regulations and methods specified in applicable regulations and Polish and branch standards.
The Section has at its disposal advanced apparatus and all-terrain vehicles equipped with sets of current generating aggregates, deep well pumps and portable gas analyzers.

ZThe scope of activity of the Environmental Monitoring Section is covered by the PCA Accreditation No. AB 550 according to PN-EN ISO/IEC17025.
Physico-chemical analysis of samples of wastes, water and wastewater are made in the Central Laboratory of Energopomiar, accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA Accreditation No. AB 550).

Environmental monitoring in the vicinity of industrial plants and waste landfills (including tests of wastes)

According to the Ordinance of the Minister of Environment of December 9, 2002, as regards the scope, time, way and conditions for monitoring waste landfills (Journal of Laws No. 220, item 1858) and the applicable administrative decisions, the Environmental Monitoring Section performs complex monitoring of waste landfills in pre-operational, operational and post-operational phases. We provide monitoring for industrial plants with regard to the obligations imposed on industrial equipment and installations by appropriate institutions (realization of administrative decisions).


tests and measurements of water environment quality, including:

  • measurements of the underground water mirror
  • measurements of surface water flow rates and effluent volume
  • tests of monitoring points with technical assessment and pumping up to clean up piezometers
  • analysis of index parameters of underground and surface water samples as well as wastewater samples (including effluents)
  • interpretation of the test results based on the detailed analysis of geological, hydrogeological and meteorological conditions and individual administrative decisions

Water and effluent testing related to waste landfill monitoring includes obligatory index parameters (according to the above mentioned decree), pH, specific electrolytic conductivity (SEC), total organic carbon (TOC), the content of particular heavy metals: Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Cr +6, Hg, the sum of multi-ring aromatic hydrocarbons (MAH) and additional index parameters determined on the basis of individual administrative decisions.

  • Continuous and periodic measurements of air dustiness comprising measurements of dust fall and particulate matter concentrations, including:
    • monthly and annual dust fall levels
    • average daily and annual particulate matter concentrations PM-10
    • trace element content in dust fall and particulate matter
    • content of compounds playing a role of indicators that enable the identification of the air pollution source
    • interpretation of the measurement results in correlation to the local meteorological conditions and valid legal regulations
  • landfill gas tests comprising the determination of composition and emissions of CH4, H2S, CO2, O2
  • complex observations and measurements of the forest environment in the scope necessary to evaluate the condition and pollution of forests affected by industrial immissions
  • tests of the ground level pollution, including:
    • borehole drilling and soil and earth sample collection at various depths
    • analysis of index parameters of soil and earth samples
    • interpretation of the test results based on the detailed analysis of the ground and water conditions and valid legal regulations

Our LANDFILL MONITORING services include:

  • landfill condition evaluation and tests of the properties of wastes to be stored in landfills as regards:
    • possibility of waste acceptance at particular landfills (according to the Ordinance of the Minister of Trade and Labor of September 7, 2005, regarding the criteria and procedures for the acceptance of wastes at particular landfills (Journal of Laws No. 186, item 1553, with further amendments)
    • environmental nuisance and possible economic utilization of wastes in construction industry, mining, for land grading, among others
    • necessity to provide new waste disposal sites with no need to construct new landfills
  • control of the structure and composition of waste mass
  • control of landfill surface subsidence

We render consulting services related to the control of capacity and operation of waste landfills when selecting and refilling particular compartments.


Our reports, opinions and expertise form the basis for:

  • evaluation of operation conditions of the sites
  • assessment of the state of the environment in the vicinity of industrial sites and waste landfills
  • determination of the size and scope of environmental impact of the sites
  • evaluation of the efficiency of technical solutions aimed at maximum reduction of environmental impact of the sites
  • designing industrial sites and waste landfills
  • waste acceptance at particular landfills according to the primary characteristics and conformity tests
  • providing new waste disposal sites with no need to construct new landfills
  • obtaining integrated and sector permits for environmental pollution

The purpose of tests and measurements is to check operation conformity of industrial sites with the conditions specified in the administrative decisions.

Preparation of industrial sites for obtaining the integrated permit

The Act of April 27, 2001 - Environmental Protection Law, imposes an obligation to obtain and up-date integrated permits on both existing and new installations which may cause significant pollution of particular environmental components or the environment as a whole.
The Environmental Monitoring Section offers services of complex preparation of sites for obtaining the integrated permit. These activities comprise the following stages:

  • development of an environmental survey report
  • development of an integrated permit application consisting of a formal part, an informative-descriptive part and an operational part, including the identification of the BAT requirements.

The development of an integrated permit application is the basis for obtaining this permit in the form of a decision necessary to operate a specific group of installations..

A wide range of activities of Energopomiar includes also tests and measurements needed to prepare an integrated permit application. These are, among others:

  • measurements of pollution emissions from main and auxiliary sources
  • acoustic map preparation for sites on the basis of noise measurements
  • electromagnetic field measurements
  • soil quality testing in the vicinity of the site in question
  • development of waste management program
